This is a late post but hopefully people will remember them for their contributions to the Japanese electronic music scene. Thank you Akira Complex. Crossposted from [the Snoo Platform](https://safereddit.com/r/japanesemusic/comments/14kgq3l/akira_complex_international_edm_prodigy_has/) Akira Complex had enjoyed the best year in their career in 2023, despite battling with a complicated spinal fracture and ongoing chronic illness. Long beloved by the Japanese scene that influenced them, they had moved to Japan to be closer to their friends and influences, and found raucous success in the nation's ever steady rhythm game scene. Their label Attack the Music posted the suicide hotline with their announcement, which tends to imply the death in question was suicide; but until we hear from their spouse, this remains unconfirmed. Moonriders is a Japanese new wave rock and pop band started in Tokyo in 1975 by Keiichi Suzuki (鈴木 慶一), who has also become globally known as a one of the composers for the Mother/Earthbound video game series, the composer for the Satoshi Kon anime film Tokyo Godfathers, and a former collaborator with YMO's Yukihiro Takahashi in a duo called The Beatniks. All of Suziki's music, from Moonriders to Earthbound to the Beatniks, is absolutely jammed full of catchy melodies, interesting chord progressions, and more than a little bit of 20th century arty weirdness. This live rendition of the track *Dynamite to Coolguy* is no exception except with a laid back reggae-ish feel thanks to the solid bass groove and off-beat guitar chucks throughout. It's a great version of a great song, and I hope you all like it too!

Formed in 2011, DEATHROLL is a one-man project led by multi-instrumentalist Kazu. With a dark and discombobulating sound, DEATHROLL captures the true essence of Norwegian black metal whilst simultaneously putting a decidedly Japanese twist on the genre. Having just released their latest album, Japanese Extreme Metal Art (reviewed here) now seemed the perfect time to

In my last post I shared a song by singer-songwriter Tomovsky. This time I'm sharing a song by his brother's (lead vocalist and bass player, Haruyuki Oki) band, The Pees. The Pees are a raw and loose 3-piece punk rock band with a style ranging from frenetic and wild, to no-fucks-given relaxed, always with active, melodic bass lines, a touch of blues harmony, and vocals that drift in and out of tune *just the right amount*. This particular tune, *ekaki*, is definitely on the chill side and is one of my favorites of theirs, so turn it up, sit back, find some kara-age chicken and a cold drink, chill out and enjoy! :)

Tomovsky is a Japanese indie singer-songwriter and illustrator. His music ranges from high-energy wacky tunes, to chill and catchy ballads, and more (just about all of which is very unique, intimate and modestly produced). His impressionistic and surreal artwork is worth a mention too, and can be seen on much of his album art (as well as on a couple of singles from another Japanese rock band, "The Pillows"). Tomovsky is also the brother of the lead singer of the Japanese punk band, "The Pees".

Hi! Thought I'd drop by and occasionally share some links to Japanese music that I like. (I see a lot of news posts, so I'm not sure if that's within the scope of this sub or not! Please let me know!) I'm really fond of the Blue Hearts in general and feel they are overlooked as one of the great punk bands, up there with the best! A lot of fans of Japanese punk/rock might be familiar with their big hit "Linda Linda", which is also great, but they've got a really deep library of tunes in a variety of styles and moods. This track, "Neon Sign" has a calm and nostalgic feel that I really like, fitting for just kicking around on a hot summer day like today.

A lot of people talk about wanting to experience things for the first time again, but I find that Rainbow Goblins is one of those experiences that feels every bit as magical no matter how many times I've heard it.
