From what i know they seem to be a pan-European "democratic socialist" party that aims to reform the EU. Doesn't sound very convincing to me but im interested in what your opinion on them is
i live in luxembourg and am part of the local communist party but i frequently ask myself if a tiny landlocked nation even could be socialist (imagining that a revolution somehow happened) because we are surrounded by european core countries like germany and france which build the center of the neoliberal european union and they would never let this country turn socialist. In answer to this they with the help of the US would most certainly invade Luxembourg. Independence would also be a problem, we are completely dependent on trade with other countries, mostly our western neighbors and their finance which would (IF the invasion failed) sanction us. In answer, if Luxembourg turned socialist it would be a misery for the poeple, not because of the socialism, but because of our "allies" attacking and sanctioning us.
I know that here in the global North, it will still take time for the material conditions to worsen in a way that the working class will finally realise and revolt against their oppressors....but when could these conditions be met? Because eventhough we still live high life qualities, they are still increasingly worsening with the system failing to provide its people with housing and employment.
im a portuguese immigrant so i dont have much knowledge of portuguese politics apart from the succdem ""socialist party"" and the communist party of portugal, but what about the "left Block"? I read some sources state they are succdems while other claim them to be democratic socialists...what are they? Are they anti-capitalist? What is their stance to privat ownership of the means of production?
For my part, if they are truly socialist not just by name but have plans for a socialist governing on top of seeking for self-determination after being locked in Ukraine, they have my support BUT i fear that they might be just socialist by name and just end up becoming part of the russian federation which in that case would obviously strip any leftist of the will to support their movement. But i have to admit that i haven't done much research on this topic.

I read "Stasi State or Socialist Paradise" a book describing general life in the GDR and how it functioned and having this insightful yet critical view of the GDR really opened me up. From communal engagement, work-place democracy and education there are many things we can look up to not necessarily the GDR only but also other former and current socialist countries....and also learn from the failures and errors of these countries. That being said, if i had to run a socialist country, i would draw great inspiration from the GDR and the USSR in particular though it is important to remember that everys country material conditions are different and therefore we cannot copy socialist models of other countries, all we can do is merely take them as a base to develope, adapt and improve to our countries.
i wonder
i like the idea of a unified european state that unifies the people of europe under the socialist cause but not whatever the EU is trying to achieve, also i think that the idea of a unified europe got cooped by white-nationalists to "save thu whye race" and whatever nonsense which is not what a federal europe should stand for but rather the first step to slowly incorporate people with similar enough cultures into a bigger, more international, socialist realm
