Fat People Hate
An old reddit post: When I say fat people im not talking about someone who is 200-280lbs, I’m talking about the morbidly obese who are out of breath from walking to their car and back. People who are 350+. A little backstory is that I work at a grocery store where it’s really common to get old / fat people as patrons, this doesn’t bother me at all. However it irks me to no end when I’m trying to help an elderly person shop by pushing their cart & grabbing what they would like off the shelves and all the sudden we have to wait 30 min for someone to move out from the isle because even if they’re up against the shelf, I can not fit the cart through. Another thing is that recently we had to call the police on someone who threw a fit for not being allowed to use the store mobility scooter because it was already taken by someone. This person was a nice old lady who comes often and we know her by name and has never given us any troubles. She uses the scooter for obvious reasons as she is in her 80’s and isn’t very strong being a frail short woman. Anyway the obese woman was throwing a fit because she couldn’t use the mobility scooter and the other lady using it “didn’t need it because she wasn’t as heavyset “ as her. It irritates me that she kept this up for 20 minutes shouting at my superiors over this. It’s just absolutely ridiculous how someone can be so untitled and think they deserve something over someone else because they are so fat. There are other examples but my break is almost up & I feel like I just needed to blow off some steam before I get back to work.
It's not possible. So a couple people here have made the point that being a fat ass is mostly or at-least heavily contributed to by being lazy. I 100% disagree with this sentiment. The main argument that is used is this, > calories in calories out law of thermodynamics But that doesn't have any meaning when we are talking about what makes a person want to stuff their face all day and all night with food. People say the reason Americans are fatter now than 50 years ago is that they move less. I will argue this is false. People had cars 50 years ago, radios, they played cards, read books and nobody went jogging. There were not running shoe stores. no treadmills, no indoor bikes, pools were harder to come by. Kids played outside more sure but that doesn't account for adult fatness. You cannot account for the fattening of the world (Not just America) by lack of movement. It is 100% processed foods. Anyone here can try only eating beef, salt, and fruit for 1 month and do nothing and see how much weight the gain. It's either nothing, lose weight, or possibly lost fat gained muscle if you have been protein starved. If you cut out the fruit you will lose weight every single time. This tells me it has nothing to do with decreased activity and everything to do with diet change. The food we eat today is nothing like the food we ate in 1950. Everyone was eating shoulder bone soup. Bread made from wheat not grown with chemicals, no preservatives. Less treated milk. No seed oils. No fructose corn syrup. No, the reason you or your loved ones is a fat ass is purely because you eat shit out of plastic bags. Anything that isn't fresh should be avoided. Except maybe rice if you are to skinny and need to fatten up.
There's a lot of talk of the "obesity epidemic" and this is often discussed in scientific terms, about "counting calories" to lose weight, or fad weight loss diets (which can work), or just "exercising more and eating less" But I've thought from time to time that maybe this is more of a spiritual problem of the sin of gluttony, and as such it may not be as easily solved by self-will and discipline, but by the grace of God through people undergoing holy fasts for the good of soul and body What do you think about the spiritual dimension of the "obesity epidemic", or the traditional idea of the sin of gluttony?
