I went to high school in the 1980s, and everyone was saying all the same things back then too. I have absolutely no doubt that this exact same message was conveyed in the 70s, in the 60s, in the 50s... people are ALWAYS complaining "There's too much sex in media these days."

Sexy has positive connotations. Sexual is neutral. Sexualized has negative connotations. The first two have been almost completely replaced by the third over the last 20 years. It's a profound change in the way we perceive the world.
