Question about requirements

Hey guys, got some questions for you: How is x-plane 12 in relation to Microsoft Flight Sim on steam? At the time of fs2010, xplane was the poor man's flight sim. Is is better now?

Also I have a old flight yoke and pedals. Can they be cleaned up easily or do I have to buy new?
