If you're looking avoid the craziness what I usually do is wait in line for coffee before jumping in, and then once its clearing out a bit jump. It makes it a lot less crowded and chaotic, also you can go further down not in the center (which is where all the pictures are taken)

Friday morning swim club is awesome! Definitely recommend going, just try and get there early to hear their instructions/announcements at the beginning and grab a close parking spot if you drive
Free coffee as well

Phodega has definitely been on my list for a while. Ill definitely make note of the fried pork dumplings and Ube cookies. Sad to hear about their beef pho though.
Anybody visit some good restaurants this weekend? I was able to check off a few restaurants I have been wanting to visit for a while now: 1. Au Cheval - went to Small Cheval before but finally caved and waited for their burger. Honestly not the biggest burger fan but this was overall a really nice burger. The bacon was amazing. Don't know that I'd go out of my way to grab it again though. Likely I'd go to small cheval if I am really craving a good burger but if you're already in west loop and going to grab drinks before dinner definitely worth putting your name down. 2. Rubi's on 18th - was in the area and decided on tacos, had a Carne Asada taco and an Al Pastor both with blue corn tortillas. Their tortillas are made to order and delicious! The salsas were phenomenal as well especially the salsa verde. I preferred the Asada while my GF preferred the Al Pastor. Both were really good though. 3. Monster Ramen - had their summer special a spicy shio ramen and it killed. One of the best bowls in the city no doubt. Made with limes and sesame and was the perfect amount. Noodles were awesome as well. High five ramen holds a special place in my heart though but its pretty close. Different types of ramen so no tonkotsu there but their shio was definitely the best shio I have had. How about you? Any good meals this weekend?

Always happy to see more transit options especially expansion of public transit.
Not something you see everywhere in the country
This community needs an icon and a banner! Thoughts on the lovely chicago flag for the icon? Or maybe something more square

I have noticed this as well too. However I had thought that all passengers for Amtrak trains were supposed to wait in the Great Hall. Not sure if it was a temporary change for covid. Did you see construction?
I just want a feed that I can scroll through and get lots of content that I enjoy without having to adjust tons of different filters and settings only to get posts that are from weeks ago. I'd love an algorithm setting where anyone can choose an open source recommendation algorithm to scroll through on Mastodon or Lemmy. Everwhere seems to be hating on it and how Chronological is better but algorithm based feeds can actually be good and they dont all have to be like Twitters

Very well written response. I appreciate it.
It will be interesting to see how much growth will remain thats not just anti-twitter anti-reddit users willing to momentarily move out of spite and will remain here in the long term.
I really hope ActivityPub/WWWC does not get overrun with corporate interests but only time will tell

Replying here instead of your other reply but yeah it definitely is like the paradox of tolerance but I will also add that for most people an open platform is probably not the #1 priority. I think a lot of people just want to be able to access content and/or update their friends and separating off threads wont help that
However who knows what can happen maybe threads will flop, or maybe they will make the fediverse mainstream and we will have the interconnectedness that we all want
At the end of the day though, some servers will block threads and some wont but with enough options everyone can join a server that fits their needs and that really is what the fediverse is about

Spotted cow is #1. Just went to Devil's lake this weekend and had to grab a 12pk

Personally I think it's a test to see if the fediverse has the legs to stand on. I dont think we will see an internet in the future that exists without corporation run social media and blocking them before they even launch is against what the fediverse is for
Now if they have rampant content moderation problems and degrade the site then sure block them but I think they should be treated the same as any other fediverse site

Really excited for this to be done as the train travels super slow through this area. Should improve speed along the entire line once this is finished.
Just wish it wouldn't take so long
