On German tv they just corrected themselves on the Schlotterbeck pen. Thank god I'm not the only one who thought that was the right call. Felt like I was going crazy reading all the comments here.

Sami Khedira has to be payed by the number of words he says. There is no other explanation for how much he talks. The guy isn't commentating a football match, he is recording a full podcast on it.

  • Former Norway International Kjetil Rekdal on his country's continuous failure to qualify for a major tournament: "We are the HSV of Europe."

    Relevant parts from the article:

Rekdal recalled that Norway controlled the game in Spain but still lost 3-0, gave away a lead in the last three minutes against Scotland in June and lost 2-1 - and also failed to hold on to a 1-0 lead in Georgia in March. "When it comes down to it, we are not there," Rekdal says.

That is all the more saddening for the Norwegians, he says, because they have the best generation they have had in decades. "Our football as a whole has taken a leap. You can see that not only in Haaland and Ödegaard, but also in the fact that we now have players at Sevilla FC, SSC Napoli, Burnley FC, Brighton & Hove Albion, Borussia Dortmund or Ajax Amsterdam, and that we are achieving good success with the youth teams," Rekdal explains. And yet Norway regularly fails. "We are the HSV of Europe," Rekdal even says, because the Norwegians mess up the qualification for major tournaments as regularly as Hamburger SV messes up the return to the Bundesliga.

Norway has fallen "behind countries like Finland, North Macedonia and Albania" and, according to results, is "more on a par with San Marino, Liechtenstein or Andorra", Rekdal complains. Maybe they should go the "German way", says Rekdal, and organise a big tournament together with Sweden and Denmark. Because then Norway - like Germany for 2024 - would automatically qualify.

That initial save by Ochoa was fucking great. This is why we need a real striker like Füllkrug. Guy has that typical striker instinct to be at the right place at the right time. Important for rebound situations like this.

  • >"An app for spectators in the stadium can be an aid. The idea phase for this has been completed, we are now in a planning phase and are asking ourselves how the implementation can succeed,", said the former referee and current DFB head of innovation Jochen Drees. He expects a VAR app to be launched "in the course of the second half of the season at the earliest". >When the video referee intervenes, the fans in the arena - and probably also those in front of the screens - should be given more insight. Possibly, spectators will also be able to access video sequences. "The gold standard should simply be that stadium visitors and TV viewers see the same images during VAR situations. The fan in the stands should be on the same level as the TV viewer." >Currently, according to Drees, a number of questions still need to be clarified. "Among other things, this also involves distribution rights. And the system must work perfectly in the stadium," said the 53-year-old. "If stadium visitors then only look at their smartphones, that would not be helpful," he added. >Most recently, the DFB announced its intention to follow the English example of greater transparency in VAR interventions. The communication between the referees and the video assistants is to be made public. However, there are still "many questions", said Drees. For example, possible legal problems and which platform should be used for this.
