Has anyone ever used spoon theory for personal reasons or to be able to show others your pain?
  • Melancholia Melancholia 1y ago 100%

It's spoons because the person originated the idea was at a restaurant and trying to come up with a way to explain her situation to a friend, and just grabbed whatever was nearby which happened to be a bunch of spoons. Then the story went viral and it stuck.

I'd like to call them "action points"

What are moderators supposed to see? I was added as a moderator on m/stinkbadgers and I can't see any panel with tools. The only thing that's different since I was made a moderator is that I have a "moderate" option in the "more" menu on any thread or comment

  • What is a good way to make space in a small room?
  • Melancholia Melancholia 1y ago 100%

Making things more vertical is always good. Find ways to hang things on walls or put up shelves. Accessory items (necklaces, scarves, sunglasses) are good candidates for hanging up. You could even hang up some commonly used cables for easy access. You can buy things to mount with lots of hooks, or just hang stuff on pushpins or jumbo pushpins... or hang up some sort of rope-y thing and hang stuff off of that.

You could consider IKEA cube storage units (KALLAX)... there can also be versions of these at other stores. You can even stack one on top of your dresser. (be careful it won't fall over and crush anyone). IKEA has inserts that fit perfectly into their cubes to add drawers or subdivide into two smaller shelves. You can also get cube shaped storage basket things that fit in this style of furniture.

Check out storage containers geared towards people who do arts & crafts, you can find some interesting storage options there ,particularly if you have a lot of small items to sort

My ideal system would have two things to vote on.. whether you like/agree with a comment and whether you think it contributes to the discussion. So you could upvote an entertaining quippy comment but also vote that it doesn't really contribute anything meaningful, and you could downvote something you disagree with while still indicating it adds to the discussion.

I doubt people would use it correctly, but I think its a nice idea in theory.

Wow Furcadia is still a thing? I remember it being around like.. idk... 20 years ago. If its still going, that's pretty cool. I love when old parts of the internet are still there, just chugging away in their own little corner.

  • Why do some people have a extreme hate for Furries?
  • Melancholia Melancholia 1y ago 100%

That's a good question. Some anime styles, definitely not. Other anime styles, maybe. But it definitely doesn't feel "childish" to me in the same way anthropomorphic animals do. It may be my personal experience. I associate anthropomorphic animals, and the particular art style of furries, to media I consumed between the ages of like 2 and 8. I wasn't exposed to anime until I was a young teenager, so it doesn't really have that association with childhood for me.

I really do find it fascinating to analyze these biases, because I do consider it an irrational bias that I have. I can analyze the reasons for it, but it isn't really a logic, just a feeling.

  • Why do some people have a extreme hate for Furries?
  • Melancholia Melancholia 1y ago 100%

I find the anthropomorphic children's cartoon aesthetic of furries to be extremely cringe. Its juvenile and ugly, and then when its sexualized or people are making fursuits, it becomes exponentially more cringe.

I think if furries had a better art style and less weirdly anthropomorphized, I might even be on board.

Edit: I just want to be clear that I don't hate furries at all and have friends who are furries who I love and respect. I'm just trying to be honest about what I find off-putting about it because I imagine there are other people who have a similar "cringe" reaction to the art style and translate that into hate.

"Mephitidae is a family of mammals comprising the skunks and stink badgers. " I propose our goal is broadening the name stink badgers to include the entire family Mephitidae and we can still proceed as planned.

You can create it and we co-moderate.
I'm thinking plural, one word, and either all lowercase or just the first letter capital. stinkbadgers or Stinkbadgers
Friendship always comes before the stink badger agenda.

I will begin collecting and producing stink badger content immediately

    Okay here are my ideas.

    1. Create a community about stink badgers. Post pictures, facts, memes, and videos everyday until it catches on.
    2. Get someone with a lovely British accent to narrate a video about the wonders of the stink badger. Made the video extremely entertaining so it goes viral. I'm thinking something like the famous honey badger video, but a totally different vibe.

Let's make it happen. The name "trash pandas" has caught on for raccoons. We can do the same for skunks, which will henceforth be known as stink badgers

So do you think infinite monkeys using infinite typewriters over infinite time, wouldn't necessarily produce the works of Shakespeare? I've always been suspicious of that idea.
