Many (if not most) new cars have their own cellular service built in. They spin this as being able to hotspot to your vehicle if you pay for data or being able to remote lock/start your vehicle with their app. However, the vehicle manufacturer has their own plan allowing them to relay back telemetry data regardless of whether you buy a data package.

Lemmy decided to go with SHA256 for TOTP seed. This is a very odd move since many 2FA apps don’t support SHA256. I actually had to write a quick python script to spit out my 2FA code since Bitwarden doesn’t support it. Hopefully either Lemmy will change to SHA-1 or Bitwarden will start to support SHA256 seeds.

I started using SearXNG and actually blocked Reddit from the results. As someone who almost always put “Reddit” in my google searches, I’ve been impressed with the quality of my search results without relying on Reddit.

Boost or US Mobile are the new Mint. Think Boost actually has a chance of hanging around for a while since they are owned by Dish who is building out their own network of towers (think they just hit coverage of 70% of US). They also use both T-Mobile and AT&T for roaming with their rainbow sims, which is extremely rare. US Mobile is a Verizon MVNO.. their "unlimited" package has the same priority as post-paid Verizon customers for the first 30gb each month, but I'm afraid they're eventually going to get bought out by Verizon ala Mint.

I think you mean explicitly open the port on your router, but even then that’s not true. Plex by default will proxy your traffic so that even closed off servers can be reached. It is pretty easy to disable remote access in the server settings though.

I believe Beehaw defederated from Lemmy.link, however they haven't said anything to me privately or publicly. The most recent post from a Lemmy.link community on Beehaw is over 3 days old. Beehaw is very serious about their curation/moderation and local communities, so I was not surprised to see them defederate. Unfortunately I think you'll need to hop instances if you want to sub to any of Lemmy.link's communities.

Every community has their feeds listed in the sidebar. That is actually how the bot is controlled. It looks up communities, scrapes any RSS feeds in the sidebar and then posts any unseen links to the community.

I don't think this would be the correct avenue to go about that. That functionality would require Lemmy to implement so that upvotes and comments are transmitted over. All this is is automatic posting of RSS feeds to communities.

Click the magnifying glass in the top right corner next to your notifications. Make sure you are searching for "All". There appears to be some sort of bug where if you search for communities that it won't return anything. If you search "All" it'll find the community. Make sure to put in the actual name of the community you're wanting to find in this format: !community@server.url. You wan't to put in the actual community name, not the friendly name. In this example I'm searching for Youtube News (yt_news) on Lemmy.link.

Are there any Discord servers or somewhere in the Matrix to chat about hosting a Lemmy instance? I've got Lemmy running, but I think there are several of us in the same boat struggling with federation performance issues and it might be good to have some place to chat real time.
So I have two raspberry pi 4s on my network. Both are running Raspberry Pi OS Lite. One runs octopi for my Neptune 3 printer and the other runs Mainsail for my Voron 2.4. I’ve had an issue twice recently where both of my Pi’s drop off my network simultaneously. Nothing else becomes disconnected, but nothing is able to access the Pis. This happened once before a couple weeks ago and I simply reformatted the SD cards and everything worked again. Since this seems to be an issue I don’t want to keep reformatting. My Wi-Fi network is UniFi with 3 APs. Has anyone heard of anything like this?
1. I started off with a server outside of my country and it had terrible latency. When I attempt to change the server it doesn’t change. 2. This may be related to still using the old server due to its high latency, but I’m randomly getting “error loading content” quite a bit when scrolling. 3. It would be fantastic to get multi user and multi server support. With all of the defederating happening right now it would be extremely nice to be able to have multiple account and maybe even merge them together in my feed. 4. Swipe gestures for posts would be a great addition. Other than that for a first commit you’ve done an amazing job. Please add some ability to buy you a coffee on the about page!
