Yeah I see this fairly often on lemmy, the same stories going round again and again for a week or so.

Here in the UK there have been a few cases of people of people who scampered off to join Isis etc who have had their citizenship removed and are unable to return to the country. I'm not a law-knower but I think this is pretty legally iffy, it certainly happens though.

  • This is a thought experiment "Ball on a Table" for detecting whether someone has Aphantasia. What do you see when you perform this experiment?
  • Regrettable_incident Regrettable_incident 3d ago 100%

Yeah, same with me. But I knew the ball was pushed and rolled to the edge of the table and then fell, so I feel like I got the most relevant bit.

Tbh I've never been good at visualising faces, recognising people I know, retracing a route I've taken etc. This just feels like one of those things I've never really been great at.

  • Regrettable_incident Regrettable_incident 5d ago 100%

Yeah same. I got a steam deck maybe six months ago, my backlog is so big I've only recently finished bioshock. Seems like a nifty little device and it seems to handle contemporary stuff okay too.

Interesting. . . I'd say Gemma 2B wasn't actually wrong - it just didn't answer the question you asked! I wonder if they have this problem with other letters - like maybe it's something to do with how we say w as double-you . . . But maybe not, because they seem to be underestimating rather and overestimating. But yeah, I guess the fuckers just can't count. You'd think a question using the phrase 'How many . . .' would be a giveaway that they might need to count something rather than rely on knowledge base.

Yeah, I've been avoiding this stuff the past few months by only letting my laptop online for quick essentials things. It's windows, I can't replace it with a mac so it's gotta be linux. Most online stuff I can do on my phone. But I can't put it off forever; I'm going to have to try the linux dual boot thing sooner or later. I've been putting it off because I've not used linux since the 90s and I really don't have time to re-learn. Gotta be done tho.

Edit - your semicolon inspired me to try one of my own!

historically humans aren't usually burning down libraries on purpose.

Sometimes they are, Baghdad springs to mind, I'm sure there are other examples. And this library is online so there's less chance of getting caught with a can of petrol and a box of matches.

Then there's every authoritarian regime that tries to ban or burn specific types of books. What we're seeing here could be more like that - an attempt to muddy the waters or introduce misinformation on certain topics.

  • Hi yeah so this is a follow-up post. I posted a pic of my garden maybe a month ago and said I'd post more pics over summer, so here is its current state. As you can see, the gladioli are coming and going, the calendulas are bullet proof (those fuckers will flower when temp drops to zero). There's a couple of grafted apples in the mix, my marigolds got nailed by slugs (lotta slugs and snails this year). I'm not growing any food aside from the apples which are too small to fruit and the heritage beef tomato someone gave me. The sweet peas are almost over, gutted cos I love how tarty they smell! But I've been saving seed pods. There's a bit more stuff in the mix. Obviously growing in pots and crates is challenging but as you can see I live in a van and my plants have to be able to move when I have to go. Also there's fuck all soil where I am right now. I'd love a proper garden but I'm doing my best. Anyhoo, the bees and butterflies love it, and so do I.

Hi yeah so I'm not sure if this fits here but I'm posting it anyway. I live in a van so my garden has to be in pots so I can move it when I have to. Also there's fuck all soil where I am right now. I'm mostly about flowers, I'm not growing any food this summer except that tomato plant in the blue crate, someone gave me that and I couldn't not give it a chance. I think it's a heritage beef tomato. There's a couple of apples in the mix, one of em flowered in spring but they were only cuttings& grafts last year so doubt it'll fruit. The rest is meant to be pretty stuff, sweet peas, calendulas (dead headed, hopefully back soon, those fuckers are bulletproof), marigolds (slug attack but couple survivors) gladioli, couple of roses, snap dragons, sunflowers be coming late due to sluggery, cornflowers, the orange crate is supposed to be meadow flowers, we'll see what happens there. Anyway, if no-one tells me not to I'll post another pic in a few weeks cos all being well it'll only get prettier
