Azalad the Black was born to a powerful hobgoblin warlord, but due to an inherited disease from his mother he was crippled. Azalads father only wanted a son to inherit his position, so Azalad was mostly neglected. Due to his condition, Azalad would spend most of his life studying and reading, and quickly became a devoted follower of Bane, and an accomplished necromancer. After attaining enough power, Azalad killed his father as part of a magic ritual that sapped his father's vitality, curing his condition. Azalad now travels the realms as a necromancer for hire. His black iron armor, forged from scraps mined from the armor of Bane himself, has led to him earning the title of The Black.

He's become the unofficial party leader. Although the rest of the party is mostly good alingned, they realize that Azalads tactics get the job done, despite how cruel he can be.

He is a Necromancer with the Death Knight subclass (from Valdas Spire of Secrets, a third party book).

Almost done with Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight. Had a few friends and family members talk about how great the Dragonlance books are, but I grew up reading The Legend of Drizzt books. So far I absolutely love it, and if you play DnD I suggest you get a copy.

I think it's been in development hell for years, and the only screenshots ive seen make it look like a visual novel. Not hyped for it.

I own a lot of books. There's a used book store near my house where I get them cheap. Every night before I go to sleep I try to read a chapter.

Vampires, The Masquerade: Bloodlines. The whole vibe of the setting, the story, the locations, and then when I finally understood what the plot was really about. Masterpiece of a game, couldnt stop thinking about it.

  • Going to the LoTR set prerelease draft. This will be my second prerelease, but I feel like all the matches I won were out of luck. I mostly play Commander with my friends, so a more standard format is a bit of a blind spot to me. Any tips?

Whats a game that everybody seems to love that you cant stand for one reason or another?
  • StrahdVonZarovich StrahdVonZarovich 1y ago 100%

Same. People like to call it a groundbreaking open world game when its exactly like all the others: a big world filled with the same few activities copy pasted over and over.

  • StrahdVonZarovich StrahdVonZarovich 1y ago 100%

Perfectly stated. Having this new list of identities is extremely useful and helped me out a lot, but of course its gonna have problems. Trying to sort and categorize human beings is always a problem.

Its probably a common answer, but "Measure of a Man" from Star Trek: The Next Generation. It makes me hope for a future like that, where people can settle their problems by talking it out and debating, and even change their minds. Whenever I think about what Star Trek is really about, I think about Measure of a Man. Its such a shame Paramount's Picard show disrespected it so badly.

  • What is the "Bi-Cycle"?
  • StrahdVonZarovich StrahdVonZarovich 1y ago 100%

In my opinion, trying to put titles and classifications on yourself can usually do more harm than good, and this is a good example why. For a little while I was scared that I wasnt "really bisexual" cause I slightly preferred feminine to masculine people. Then I realized that I shouldnt think about it too much and get stressed over things we all just made up, so now I just do what I want. It sucks that people use that "just a phase" argument, just let people live their lives.

Excuse my ignorance but what makes it annoying? And why is it bad that you now have a slight preference for girls?

(I assume you're an expert on this subject judging by your username, or you just like riding bicycles)

  • What's something fun you have planned this summer?
  • StrahdVonZarovich StrahdVonZarovich 1y ago 100%

Me and my family try to go to Cape May, New Jeresy every year. Been going there since I was a kid. Beautiful beaches, lots of great restaurants, its a fun time. Plus they have the best hot dogs on the East Coast: Hot Dog Tommy's. He's a really nice guy too (although he retired and now a new guy wears the hot dog hat).

A few weeks ago I also went to New Orleans. Amazing food, but The Simpson's werent kidding about how bad it could be. The French Quarter really does smell like garbage 24/7, and it gets really busy and hectic at night. Reminds me of a tourist trap boardwalk. But I loved everything else about it, and the National WW2 Museum is there. Although the museum didnt go in depth as I thought it would, and they really focus on the U.S. A tour through there made me realize why so many Americans think we won the war single-handedly.

  • Ive seen this term a few times, but never an explanation. As a person that (mostly) associates themselves with being Bi, ive never experienced any sort of "cycle". Its it just an internet injoke (cause it sounds like bicycle).

Something I WONT miss from Reddit/other social medias
  • StrahdVonZarovich StrahdVonZarovich 1y ago 100%

I remember finding a great subreddit called r/CharacterArt (or something like that). You could post character art mainly focused on dnd and other ttrpgs. I thought that was a great idea, and checked it out to find some cool art for my own Pathfinder game.

90% of the top post were women in revealing clothing.

    3
  • So what are you Pathfinder players/dms been up to? Running any adventure paths? Whats your character's build/concept? 1st edition or 2nd edition? Just wanted to make a post for a general discussion.

I don't think im qualified or knowledgeable enough to say why their games have been really bad, I can only give my opinion that they are. And because of that, I probably wont be coming back to buy their stuff.

Fallout has also been an absolute mess for a while. Fallout 4 and 76 were terrible games, and I personally dislike the new direction of the Bethesda games.

  • do you like being in the lgbt+?
  • StrahdVonZarovich StrahdVonZarovich 1y ago 100%

Completely agree. Sometimes it goes a bit too far. When I finally accepted myself as Bi, I tried joining the Bi-themed subreddits (back when I still used reddit) and I did not like it. They were all obsessed with labeling weird traits as evidence of being Bi (liking frogs, sitting on chairs weird, etc) and just being really horny. I quickly left. Sometimes the crazy conservatives do have a point: a lot of the lgbtq community is obsessed with sex.

  • What gaming moment made you genuinely smile?
  • StrahdVonZarovich StrahdVonZarovich 1y ago 100%

The ending of God of War: Ragnarok. Although I have some problems with the "mechanics" of the story (how they handled the prophecy is a bit silly) the emotional and thematic core of the story is A+. I got a bit teary eyed at multiple points in the game, and I almost cried at the ending. Kratos got the finale he deserved.

  • Like most other people here, I originally came here from reddit. Ive been having a blast so far, and I much prefer the forum-style of this. After about a week of using Lemmy I realized there was something intrinsic to reddit that Lemmy doesnt have. And I wont miss it. Too many people on reddit were way too horny. I was really annoying, but Lemmy seems way more chill. Plus its refreshing knowing that the people on here arent all bots.

What are your favorite board games? Me and my friends love playing board games, but I get the feeling their tired of playing the same things. What do you guys usually play? My favorite board game of all time is HeroQuest. I never get tired of playing it. Also love Catan, Arkham Horror, Betrayal House on the Hill, Spyfall (great at parties)

Was having this conversation with some new friends earlier and was curious. When did you guys figure out your sexuality/identity or whatever? Was there a person that helped you or a particular moment or event?

Whats a popular movie that you really dont like? And whats a little known or widely hated film that you love? Although there are bits of Saving Private Ryan that I really love (obviously the landing scene) I can never get past the plot. I just find it so outrageously dumb that so many people would sacrifice their life for one random guy. Whenever I mention the movie Dredd, people always think that Im talking about the Stallone movie. Dredd starring Karl Urban is an absolute masterpiece, but no one I know has ever heard of it.

So lets say hypothetically you had to watch a movie right *now*. Obviously you're gonna pick something you've seen before, and is pretty entertaining. What would you pick? Or maybe a movie thats better with friends? Idk just give me good movies

Been a big fan of Star Trek: Next Gen since I was a kid, and finally decided to start watching Deep Space Nine after hearing good things about it (and after finding a way to watch it for free). So far im loving it, and it does a lot of things better than Next Gen surprisingly! So what are your favorite episodes of Deep Space Nine?
