The official Nintendo Museum appears to be emulating SNES games on a Windows PC, which is slightly embarrassing
  • TAG TAG 6d ago 95%

How is Nintendo using emulators news? All the virtual console games and "Classic" systems run an emulator. It would not be too surprising if Nintendo ported their in-house emulator to run on Windows.

According to them, they registered a Super PAC to run this promotion. As a Super PAC, they were able to buy data about voters (did the voter vote in the last election and, separately, predicted party affiliation based on profiling).

How does the Musk part work? Musk launched a petition to pledge support for guns and free speech (I think that is what it is about, I did not read it nor understand how that is a petition). To AstroTurf support for the petition, he set up a referral code system. If you get a voter in a key state to sign the petition and say that you told the voter to sign, Musk's Super PAC will pay you $47.

Getting people to sign Musk's petition feels a bit wrong, even if the money is going to what CAH thinks is a good cause.

I don't follow teams outside of my local, so what is the story with Griffin? From a quick Google, I don't see anything about a debilitating injury or serious off the court issues, just that he struggled to find a role in the NBA. Normally, I would expect a guy like that to spend the rest of his rookie contract as a bench warmer or playing in the G League and then turning his experience practicing with NBA stars into a career in a less competitive league.

With Seattle and Las Vegas coming, what western team should join the east?
  • TAG TAG 1mo ago 83%

I would say both New Orleans and Memphis should be in the East, since the US regions, as I learned them in school, would say both of those are in the Southeast while, for historical reasons, Minnesota is in the Midwest. Obviously, that would make the conferences unbalanced, so we could move Milwaukee or Chicago into the West.

If they sell you pay $5 for the drug and the next person in line pays $2k for the same drug, they are making $1k per patient. They are also writing off the $3k that they could be charging you as a charitable contribution, so they don't have to pay taxes on the income. They hope that if they keep you alive, some day you will make enough money to pay full retail price.

Woah, I don't want to post for that beefy of a GPU. (I am joking, if that is not clear)

Really, most games I am interested in are JRPGs, adventure games, 2D platformers, top-down action games, and other genres that work fine with rather simple graphics. A game does not need pretty visuals to be fun.

I recognize that I am in the minority and most people want 3-D graphics in their games.

What happens if they stop doing it? Do I have to sue them for breach of contract, have to prove actual damages, and settle the class action lawsuit for $5 in store credit?

What happens if the company goes bankrupt or creates a new subsidiary to service the product and the subsidiary folds?

What level of support are they obligated to provide? What issues must be fixed and how promptly?

He wanted his kids to have a genuine VHS experience, but that was needlessly cruel.

    1. If you stop the movie instead of pausing it, the player will take the tape off the read head and you can rewind faster.
    2. You always fast forward through the previews (and only switch to regular speed if there is a trailer that everyone really wants to see).
    3. The film likely had closed captioning, you just have to turn it on in the settings.
    4. The fact that the movie started from the middle shows that the parents are the type of inconsiderate asshole who does not rewind movies after watching.

In regards to SSX, after the success of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater remake, I am surprised that EA did not counter with a remake of SSX Tricky. I love how accessible the SSX controls are while still offering plenty of depth for people who want to optimize their runs. It is too bad that EA Sports seems to be focused on simulationist sports games (and live services).

I thought that the uproar about horse armor was that it was the first pay-to-win DLC. The armor was not just cosmetic but actually provided a stat boost to your horse. The accusation was that the developers had made it too easy for enemies to kill your horse and decided to patch the game to fix it but made players pay for the patch.

  • During the pandemic, I rebuilt my computer but with GPU prices being insanely inflated, I decided to limp along with my old GPU (a GeForce GTX 760). The issue is that I have a 4k monitor and my current card can barely handle my desktop, never mind a game. I have heard that prices are coming back down to a sane level, so I am looking for part suggestions. I am not looking to play new games or ultra high settings, but I would want to at least be able to handle older/indie games, on medium settings, at a steady 30 FPS. I am looking for a note talking app to keep work notes in. My requirements are: * Allow hierarchical organization of notes (like project1, project1/build, project1/configure) and easy to navigate to different notes. * Allow basic formatting (heading, code block). * Run locally * (Optionally) Have a table of contents for quick navigation [Obsidian ](https://obsidian.md/) looked promising and had the additional benefit of storing notes in Markdown format for easy export. Unfortunately, I would need to buy a commercial license in order to store work-related information.

MobaPad is a Switch controller and game case maker (that I have never heard of), so they should have reliable info. They said that: * The Switch 2 will have physical cartridges and the slot will also be able to accept Switch 1 games. * There will be a new button on the back of each Joy-Con, behind the triggers. * There will be a new button on the right Joy-Con, by the Home button.

TL;DR: The author asserts that Nintendo is able to be so creative because they retain employees long term rather than hiring and firing like other game developers. Some excerpts that I found interesting: > All of the designers of the original Super Mario Bros. on the original Nintendo Entertainment System are credited designers on Super Mario Bros. Wonder. > Back in 2013, the late Satoru Iwata — the former president of Nintendo — said this at a shareholder meeting: > > "If we reduce the number of employees for better short-term financial results, employee morale will decrease, and I sincerely doubt employees who fear that they may be laid off will be able to develop software titles that could impress people around the world."

Has anyone ever shopped at the online store Gate Play? I have never heard of them. I saw an out of print expansion being sold below MSRP and wanted to see if anyone knew if the site was a scam. I am going to pay by credit card and read the terms of service, but don't want to have to bother with charge backs if I am not their first victim.

Are there any Lemmy clients that allow me to quick change accounts and return back to the last community or post that I was looking at? Ideally, one that has an Android app version. This matters to me because whenever I see any discussion of instances degenerating or having uptime issues, the go to answer is to create accounts on several servers. It is also good to allow me to have several distinct "identies" (for example a professional one, a hobby one, a local one).
