Who's fucking carmelizing onions?
Why did it take so damn long for humanity to "learn" how to draw/paint realistic images?

I didn't say there is nothing to learn, I think quite to the contrary. But there is no paint for light, nor gold or lots of other things, so you have to fake it. Which is the hard part.

So how do you do it?

I'm asking because I learned not a long time ago to somewhat heavily salt the onions beforehand (in olive oil ofc) and it's great. Burst for some minute or three, keep hot while stirring til done (hard, melted, ...).

I don't put garlic in it though, I'd put that in the rest of the food if I do.

    Nice write up!

Also, lots of colors were not available back then, nor were the "thinks" that make them a paint color and not just colired dust. That's why paintings from 1300 and before are brown-yellowish from the egg and lack of many colors.

Another fun example, in the late 1800 you could suddenly buy oil paint in ... Tubes! There were also a railway network in some countries, and tada people could paint in the countryside!

Scratches ear, gives change, makes sandwich, all with the same gloves...

Also I hate those black plastic psycopath-murderer gloves they sometimes have.

    Tanking a campaign

Hello everyone! Sometimes when I post on lemmy.world I get an automod post saying my comment was removed for civility. Sure, maybe I treated someone a russian bot or a comrade, but I don't think I'm very un civilized, so I'd like to know what was it that crossed the line. So I'd like to know which post was actually removed, is there a way? I'm on Connect and I have clicked all over the automod post without success... it just states a post was removed. Also, I see no post being removed (could have missed that ofc)? Cheers

    Tenfingers sharing protocol

Hello and thanks for making this community! I would like to ask a question, I'm the creator of the Tenfingers sharing protocol, and a decentralised FOSS implementation of it. You can basically have a decentralised web site or share data with anyone. Would it be appropriate to post asking for help here? Testing and ideas for the future mostly I guess. Cheers

Hello, Bought a spare super cheap used 3TB drive a year ago, and just figured out it's not a SATA but a SAS drive. How fucked am I? What can I do more than using it as a paperweight? Cheers!

    cpu.userbenchmark.com

I am toying with a new PC build and wanted to check how good new CPUs are compated to a bit older ones, and yeah cpu.userbenchmark have never been *that* good but usually you could get an idea by comparison. Now it's neanderthal name calling and blunt intel promotion, what's happening??

Hello all! I'm documenting a small FOSS project, and I'm looking for some soft that translates a documentation into a web page. Something simple, with a side board that links the pages/titles/sub-titles, and is PC and Mobile compatible. Basically images, italics, bold and links, with titles and subtitles, would be nice 🙂. Like the Lemmy install guide for example: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/administration/install_docker.html Any recommendations? Thank you all!

Hello all! Are there some game developers or game creators here on Lemmy and if so, do they meet up in some community to share their work and aches? Cheers

Edit: thank you for all information, it is really helpful 💖 I will check out pixelfed (.art) and go from there, maybe later setting up something "at home" ! Thanks again !!! Hello ! I just got asked for a link to my paintings, and well I don't have an art portfolio online and after trying some free ones out, I haven't found anything nice (ease if useno nag-ware) so I thought of Devianart where lits of good pixel artists hanged around some ten years ago ... But I have heard Devianart is no longer recommended or the goto place for your portfolio, is that so (or not ofc!) and if, do you have any recommendations for a free online portfolio? Say 30-40 paintings tops. I'm thinking about setting up something myself so self hosting (FOSS) recommendations are greatly appreciated too! Cheers!

Hi everybody! I have a Lemmy server up and running for some maybe 10 months, and all was nice and good until I upgraded to 0.19.1, .2 .3 backtracking to .2, again to .3. Everything seemed to start federating again, but with a twist; for example I had to post on eurogeaphicnovels@lemm.ee to jolt my server into communication with them for example. Seemed okay, but now it's back again (I do not check out every community I'm connected to every week or more), and posting doesn't do anything on for example artshare@lemmy.world. My post is there but I only see one answer out of two and I have like +1 on my server and more when I use this account checking out (this account is not on my server). Note: I recently had a stupidly unlucky fiber cut for like 6 days (miss management, weekend, ...) so the server was offline for almost a week. I tried other "navigators" than Jerboa and it's not Jerbias fault as it's the same on say Voyager. I obviously tried reloading, restarting, posting, ... Is there a way saving my server? Like an sql statement bringing all "dead" federation links up again as new? Maybe it's just me who doesn't make my server chat enough so some communities are flagged dead (even if I'm subscribed to them)? Any help greatly appreciated! Ps. Can show screens of it if needed (but it's like yeah, mindoki server 2 votes, others more).
