I'll bet a good chunk of donations is going straight into the Trump family coffees (thanks Lara!) leaving little for the actual Republican candidates and incumbents.

That's true, but I was implying that the Trump campaign will just claim the rule is "serve", or claim "serve" was meant, not caring what the actual rule is.

Oh, they'll weasel their way around that. "He was elected but was not allowed to serve by those cheating Democrats, and the rule is a president can't serve more than 2 terms" blah blah blah

A pro Trump acquaintance claimed that Trump had been acquitted this week of his 34 felonies. I told him he should start reading better news sources. (The clearest evidence that that didn't happen is the fact that Trump hasn't said anything about it, because if it did, you'd never hear the end of it. )

I took a Waymo robotaxi in San Francisco a couple weeks ago. It was easy to use and I felt very safe; generally they drive like your granny. My second ride we ended up briefly stopped behind someone trying to do a left turn in an unexpected spot, and the car wavered left and right for a moment as it tried to decide what to do, not unlike human drivers. Given Tesla's not so great record on full self driving, I think given the choice I would probably stick with Waymo.

I really do think UPS does a better job than FedEx overall, but I gotta say the last time UPS delivered a high ticket item to me, it was supposed to be signed for. The driver dropped it off, gave a knock on the door and immediately left. Did not wait, didn't leave a tag, didn't take it back. I reported it to them. I was across the country at the time and the original delivery estimate was supposed to be two days later, after my return home. It's possible Best buy was the one that fucked up and gave wrong info to UPS though.

It's in the article. Most of the time they don't, but in areas where theft is an issue they do. But I'm guessing they haven't caught on yet to change the signature policy.

Well wouldn't that be a shame Edit: I don't mean to imply I'd be happy about people being harmed. But maybe they should not elect a person who plays politics at their constituents' expense.

Why not make that money available only to the districts whose representatives voted in favor of it. If the representative voted against it, that means their district must not want it, right?

He lies because he's saying things his base wants to hear. He knows he has people who will believe whatever he says, no matter how senseless or extreme. And if confronted with facts that Trump is wrong, they'll justify it in some way: he's joking, or being sarcastic, or people are misinterpreting his equivocation. It's just ego masturbation

I recently ordered something from Walmart (I try to avoid it, but I could not find this one thing elsewhere) and you get a link in your email to notify them when you're in the pickup bay. The link goes to their app. I tried going to the website through Chrome, to no avail. It kept sending me to try to download the app. I did not. I don't shop there often enough to justify it. I drove to the pickup bay and lo and behold, the sign had a phone number you could call; a very pleasant person answered, asked my name, and I had my order in a few minutes.

I do have a couple grocery store apps for 2 reasons: 1 - there are some extremely low prices that you can only get by "clipping a coupon" within the app, and 2 - loyalty points do turn into cash back.

Safeway (a west coast grocery chain) has implemented it in the worst way possible, though. They had a physical loyalty card which you scanned at checkout/self checkout, which let you access lower prices. But now they have even lower prices only through the app. The app, however, 1 - does not let you enter your old loyalty card number, combine points and cleanly separate from the old method and 2 - you cannot use the damn thing at self checkout. You have to have a checkout clerk scan your barcode in the app, which is insane. I'm just glad Safeway is not my main grocery, because if it were I would have to change to some other grocery.

I've frozen tortilla chips and they stay surprisingly crisp for months.

I can never use up cilantro quickly enough before it wilts, but it can be chopped and frozen in an ice cube tray with some water. When solid, pop them out and bag them in a Ziploc. I've also done this with chopped lemongrass.

    Pesto sauce also freezes well.

According to the restaurant owner, they were not notified. But apparently there were customers already there meaning to see Vance. So i guess the campaign told fans to come, but didn't bother telling the restaurant a bunch of armed secret service and media were going to descend? If nothing else at least the courtesy to help the restaurant be prepared for extra customers?

  • This stephanotis was given to my parents for their wedding in 1961. It bloomed every year for my mom. After she passed in 2019 I took it home and did my best with it. But apparently these plants are notorious for being a bit fussy and resisted all my efforts to get it to flower. Two years ago I read something about how they don't like being rotated, so I stopped doing that and bought a grow light to keep the non-sun side from going bald. That seems to have done the trick. There are about 5 or 6 clusters and this is the first to open up. And yes they smell fantastic!

Salmon was vacuum sealed a couple months ago but smelled a little burnt and a small amount (1/8" deep x 2" long by 1/4" wide) discolored. I generously cut off the discolored bit but wondering if the rest will taste bad. Edit: It turned out great! indistinguishable from un freezer burnt.

I started to polish my nails about 6 weeks ago. When changing polish I've noticed my nails getting yellower at the tips. I've read that the offending ingredient is nitrocellulose, which my base coat has (OPI natural nail) and probably the other coats as well (Essie, Seche Vite). My color polish is typically a light/natural pink. So my question is, what if anything un-yellows the nails? Should I leave off the polish for N days? Filing (which I don't really want to do as my nails are pretty thin already)? Thanks and happy new year

I know it's silly but I really like that frog. This morning he got replaced by a screen that you don't have to swipe up to view, and includes both hourly and 10 day forecasts. I followed some instructions I found elsewhere to clear google search data (settings: apps: google app: storage & cache: Manage space) and that brought the frog back for about 10 minutes. Then the weather line disappeared entirely from At A Glance. I rebooted the phone and got the weather back in the widget, but the frog was gone again. Would really like him back... is there something else I can try. ETA 5 days later my froggy friend is back... I hadn't tried changing anything else, it seems just random

It actually did end up with a breath of sourdough to it and a nice chewiness. This was some starter that I had built up and maintained, dried and stored over a year ago, then rehydrated a week ago.

    Garage door opener replacement questions

I think some electronics in the motor have gone kaput. The wall mounted button works, but I have 2 remotes and neither works. (I did change the battery on one as well as try to re-pair it with the motor, to no avail.) My options are to replace the circuit board ($125) or buy a new motor unit ($199). The original motor is a Liftmaster and the lift is a belt; it's probably about 20 years old. The cost of a new motor unit is not hugely more than the circuit board and I would get additional features like a battery backup. If I go for a new unit will it work with the existing belt? I'm looking at a [basic 1/2hp Chamberlain](https://www.homedepot.com/p/Chamberlain-1-2-HP-Smart-Quiet-Belt-Drive-Garage-Door-Opener-with-Battery-Backup-B2211T/322246530). Thanks!

I'm a Google Fi customer and have location turned on, so Maps asks me to review places I've been. Yesterday I was asked to review a hair salon in a city about 35 miles away, Maps claiming I had called it 2 weeks ago. But I haven't called it -- the number isn't in my call history so even if I managed to randomly butt dial, that hasn't happened. What gives? Is it possible my number was spoofed and somehow Fi thinks the call was made by me?
