Grilled cheese - American cheese is the only way i enjoy a grilled cheese. Also, Black Forest ham and American cheese sandwich with lettuce tomato and mayo on a baguette or other real tasting bread.

I have always lurked Reddit, I have never made an account. With Lemmy, I contribute instead of lurk as I feel I have a part to play in it's early growth for it to succeed. But that being said, I occasionally check the front page and a few specific subreddits but not quite as frequently since I joined Lemmy.
Oh, and when I do, I use LibReddit to view reddit, so nothing even official.
Do you think we will ever see support for Android Auto? It's my understanding it requires elevated permissions to function, but I wonder if there is a way to have a working sand boxed implementation.

I contribute where I can, nothing significant.
However, nothing beats Apple maps IMO. I have an iPhone which I hotspot data to and basically only use it as a GPS when driving. I can't use my Android device as I prefer using Apple CarPlay and GrapheneOS does not support Android Auto.
I use Magic Earth or OSMand when I don't have my iPhone with me.

Favorite? Hm... I would have to say Codeigniter (PHP framework) but I love these projects as well: Linux/GNU, VLC, LibreOffice, qBittorrent, VSCodium, Filezilla, GIMP, Firefox, Wireguard, GrapheneOS, Matrix, F-Droid.
If I won the lottery I'd donate to these projects or their respective foundations.

Great, more bots... Did they fix the horrible bot problem? I haven't played in 6+ months due to this.

There's a reason big tech companies are worth hundreds of billions of dollars yet most of their users have not paid a dime. So yes, data is valuable.
Data is very valuable. Google shows advertisements like they're listening to people's conversations, except they aren't. Their data profiles and predictions are so good they know what you want to buy before you even know you want to buy it.
Search the Cambridge Analytica scandal.. I am not grossly over estimating anything.

AI training and data mining. The value of data has surpassed the value of oil long ago. The world's most valuable resource is no longer oil.

I believe there will always be a way to watch these videos ad-free. I can't imagine they will restructure the video serving infrastructure to force ads in a way that can't be blocked as there is so many devices and official YouTube clients (gaming consoles, Smart TVs, etc) that would have to be updated. However, I do think they might make it more difficult.
youtube-dl is the way to go. One thing you could do is keep a text file containing video IDs that you have already downloaded and before downloading a new video and append the new video ID to the list. Another way is you could also set the file name to the video ID to and check if it exists before downloading as well.

It is what my company uses. It is free and open source. Same features as Discord. Not too difficult to setup.
Does anyone else notice how upvotes for some posts and comments are (for example) jumping from 20 to 150 votes and vice versa within the matter of 30 seconds? I am seeing that numbers for posts and comments fly all over the place within mere seconds. Is this just a result of heavy user traffic? Or could it be bots?
I am planning on purchasing a T490 with the intention of installing Ventura on it as there is quite a few issues with my current Thinkpad and it's time for an upgrade. I am glad to see that there is a few GitHub repos for it but I am wondering if there is anything I am overlooking before planning to purchase it and possibly upgrade some components. I am quite new to hackintosh builds having only ever done one before, for a friend. Do you think I would have issues if I upgraded the display to or bought one with a WQHD display (2560x1440)? Am I right to opt for the model without dedicated Nvidia graphics? Am I okay to believe all the T490 I7 processors compatible? From what I read I would have to replace the Samsung NVMe M.2 as its not supported, that's OK. I am thinking 16-32GB of RAM, budget dependent. I would appreciate any input, suggestions or recommendations before pulling the trigger.

That is exactly why I choose to use FOSS including Linux. As much as I want to standby this principle, I have come to a breaking point after dealing with its issues, issues we have all experienced. I believe it is hands down the best choice for server use, but for work and productivity, I need something more matured that is going to work out of the box. I am glad that the community here took this criticism well but I think it's important to discuss and understand that there are still some strides to be made. But at the end of the day, I'm just some guy ranting and who knows, maybe I'll be installing a Linux distro after a month of using Mac OS.

Didn't Black Mirror have an episode on this? Having the tech being used in day to day seems a little dystopian to me.

I will never stop using Linux, special place in my heart. But for my primary work machine and daily driver, I need something that is just going to work.
Surprising to myself, I have been a Linux user for over 12 years... Through the many years I have bounced between and tried Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, openSUSE, Arch, Parrot OS, Linux Mint, Manjaro. I have tried Gnome, Cinnamon, XFCE, KDE, Mate, Deepin. And more. I have 3 computers, all using a Linux distro right now. I love the idea of Linux - free, free as in freedom, free of telemetry. And well, I thought I would never entertain the idea of switching, here I am today, strongly considering Mac OS. Lately, I have become extremely frustrated and tired of dealing with little bugs, crashes, versions, and dependencies. Not to mention notable UI issues. It is starting to hamper my productivity when working. Right now I am using Ubuntu and I cannot drag and drop into VS Code from Nautilus, I can't drag and drop from the default archive manager, I am experiencing screen tearing issues, one piece of software I use crashes often but not Debian and vice versa, I have to manually reset screen brightness when it dims after timeout, etc. I have experienced issues of similar nature across all distros I have used and I am becoming burnt out. I think part of the issue is that there is a huge variety of Linux distros, different combinations of kernels, desktop environments, window managers, package managers, file managers, network managers, etc... Not to mention devices. There is too many variables, and too many projects to maintain. Sorry for the rant, I have seen many similar posts, but I have been using Linux for over 12 years, powering through, ignoring and working around these issues and I am pretty fed up. While I am conflicted, I am thinking Mac OS looks like a good middle ground. Any suggestions? What has been the most stable distro and compatible for you?
I created a community on this server /c/youtube after confirming that it did not currently exist (yes, I selected "all" not just "local"). However, when searching on to Lemmy.ml instance I am seeing my community does not exist and there is already a YouTube community existing on there. I was under the impression that communities were shared across servers or does it work another way?
