This is a thought experiment "Ball on a Table" for detecting whether someone has Aphantasia. What do you see when you perform this experiment?

    Orange.

    Dude.

Very stock photo, long dark green shirt untucked, but i had no details.

Like a big pomergranate, smaller than a football but bigger than an orange.

The table was made exclusively out of square shapes of the same dark brown, so for example no cylindrical feet. Kind of like a 3D model or the not-cheapest table at Ikea.

I had all of this before, but i didn't "see" it in the sense that people ususally mean because i have the most complete aphantasia that you can have. If you were to ask me how i saw it in my mind without litterally seeing it in my eyes, i'd have no answer. It's kinda like concepts.

Lemmy is an improvement over Reddit in terms of its business structure. We don't yet know what the downsides will be of decentralized social media at scale, but we know that it beats a tech company that went from venture capital to publicly traded while already deep in enshittification.

Lemmy is not an improvement over Reddit in terms of design: it's designed the exact same way, so it has the same set of advantages and disadvantages.

The improvement in community is hard to guesstimate, and will change as the site grows. Aside from the company, it was often the users that made Reddit suck, and Lemmy is completely capabe of sucking in the exact same ways.

I had the exact same reaction and i don't trust that sentiment, i think i'm just hoping for a singular miracle pill that i can take and it will solve all my issues.

Still thought it was worth a try but even getting an appointment with a psychologist of any kind was tough, so here i am still unmedicated even though i relate to a lot of ADD symptoms

Honestly, i predict people and businesses will keep using Win10 years after it's become unsafe. We've all seen the local warehouse still running Windows 7, i'm thinking that scenario but for millions of users.

That's a cybersecurity problem, but what i'm most concerned with is the e-waste problem, because there's still going to be a lot of users that do replace their PC. There aren't enough Linux users to buy all the computers that will be rendered obsolete, and there won't be by then either. I myself am a new Linux user but i'm already covered, i don't need more computers, not even for cheap.

I just really hope this doesn't end with millions of good computers landfilled or parted. The third world already buys a lot of our e-waste, so i hope they'll get a crapton of relatively good computers for cheap and run either Win10 or Linux

I can't believe i'm saying this, but... I think mosquitos don't deserve this. There's basically no life form that deserves our cruelty more than mosquitoes, but this pushes a boundary i didn't know was there.

All of my media companies just say what i want on their own, the fact that i own them is on the back of their minds and makes them self-censor without me needing to say anything. I just hire a manager that i know agrees with my opinions, he then proceeds to hire journalists that agree with our opinions, and they proceed to do what looks like propaganda without anyone needing to be told to do it.

I don't tell my media companies what to report because there's no need to, and if i did then there would be a paper trail.

This shows that forming tribes around a simple, singular, absolute opinion, is narrow-minded because reality can have several things be true at the same time.

Also how did you find so many images of Mr. Krabs wearing hats?

I agree. Those who care about Palestine should vote for Kamala because Trump is fully pro-genocide; but implying that Kamala has a valid plan, or even an existing plan, to help Palestinians, is untrue. She's going to do nothing or as little as possible.

The choice is between evil and more of the same, it's not between good and evil.

    The myth of black capitalism

I've been the main moderator of the same community since 2016. This evening, i approved my last comment. I'm leaving for two reasons: 1. Reddit went public a week ago. I didn’t volunteer to work for a publicly traded company, i volunteered to work for a community. As long as i live under capitalism i accept that my labor will generate value for shareholders, but damned if i ever do it for free. (this is not a Faulkner quote) 2. April 1st is coming and i'm scared they might do another r/place. Doing in r/place 2022 and 2023 has left me dejected and bitter and i don't want to feel obligated to participate again. Leaving felt like ripping myself off of something warm i've been comfortably glued to for a long time. Still recommend it for anyone still giving Reddit shareholders free labor ------------------------- EDIT: there are too many comments to respond to, but i've appreciated all of them! Thank you

It kinda reads like that. Curious if there's business to be made in using AI to generate industrial amounts of low-quality spam, and if AI has any other use cases.

Whenever a forum dies, a lot of answered questions are lost that would have been useful to people googling it in the future. Reddit is like the mother of all forums, and it also has had a lot of internet history being made on it. I really think we need a Reddit archive that is availabel for random people from Google. The best case scenario is that Reddit just limps on for years, therefore doing this conservation work better than anyone else could.

Almost always my movies even though i have tons of music, and always the most obscure shit. I have Disney movies and Breaking Bad, but people go for the auteur french sci-fi animated features. Soulseek gives me much the same joy of sharing as torrent does, perhaps more so because it's one-on-one with a username instead of an IP. It's very easy to contribute to Soulseek as opposed to torrent, you just mark your shared folders. I think there's probably more content as a result, at the cost of the inefficiency of multiple people offering the same thing. Which i'm not sure matters. I don't know if the rooms are really worth it. You only get the messages starting when you logged in, so you can't catch up to what happened before; this problem is particularly relevant because most rooms are dead; those that aren't dead consist of a lot of vicious arguments; and it's live chat anyway, never my favorite format for discussion. I prefer Soulseek to eMule just because it works, but i also found it simpler. Unfortunately my VPN doesn't play well with Soulseek, apparently it doesn't support port forwarding? I'm not sure how to fix this. It may in fact have been a problem when torrenting too the whole time and i didn't notice. Overall i really enjoy Soulseek and will probably always have it in the background, it's pretty great!

[According to Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMule), the lastest version of eMule was released in 2010, but "official forum users" developed an updated version as of 2017. Is this information up to date? Is that still true? I'd feel a lot better installing something on my computer that was last updated at least in this decade, which version of eMule should i pick, if any?
