Title I do not want a Microsoft account. Microsoft doesn't need any more info about me than they already have. Thanks

That sounds so great. Do you know the device's product name? Which library do you get this from? I'd like to try it out in my library.

Wow. Thank you. That was gross, but now it's clean.

Does this have a name other than 'a wave'?
Looking at this makes me think of some pictures of the surface of the sun, teeming with all the roiling, explosive energy barely contained beneath the surface, and then this, a solar flare, erupts

Talking post-Sesame Street/Mister Rogers/Electric Co. tunes
Circa 1983 on my first plane ride alone, aged about 10, from CA to GA, headphones plugged into the armrest with the ashtray inside: 'The Tide Is High' by Blondie was the first 'grown-up' song I recall that grabbed me.

'Lincoln in the Bardo' (2017) George Saunders. A bit late to this title but got restarted with Saunders after finding 'A Swim in a Pond in the Rain'. Now I have to read/re-read all the Russian short stories but before that, I found a signed, hard-cover, first edition of 'Lincoln in the Bardo' at my local used bookstore! It's a trip but I'm along for the ride.
How can I tell which print edition of the New Yorker has the online article? Do all online articles appear in the print edition? I read the online Interview with Justin Torres, loved it, I want the print edition to frame. The online edition says it was published 12/31/2023, I just can't find it in print.
"He had the handsomest wop kisser I ever saw" -Jean Genet "Thief's Journal" p.185 What does wop kisser mean?
I'm in the US. I haven't discerned a pattern, by the media, in the titling of the horror currently underway. I've seen Al Jazeera use both phrasings. I haven't determined that other media sites are hardlining their terminology either, but I notice the difference as I browse. Maybe it doesn't mean anything, but these days people seem extra sensitive about names.

David Eddings? I read him way back when I was a kid (~35 years ago). Think the series was called The Belgariad or Belgarion. The first 3-6 books were fun in a light yet captivating, magicy, fantasy way.

Ian Curtis (Joy Division), though that would probably screw up the timeline for New Order and all of 80's music (not a dealbreaker).
Prince (obvs)

I'm on a Galaxy S7'edge' that I really need to migrate away from. I don't want the foldable, and I'm not into iphones. How good/bad is the Galaxy S24 in this situation?

Both of these collections have more or less 'dropped off'.
Menus are mostly printed take-out menus, though I swiped the in-house menu as well when I could. Now, most of the casual dining places have replaced menus with QR codes.
The grass clippings were just a snip of a memorable event (cousin's college football game, first time solo camping, special event, new home, etc.).

I quit in 2019, by basically OD-ing on the patch. I had multiple patches on me at all times; at the end, it felt like my skin was burning

This is for Stall Action: There are 4 stalls.
Almost every guy takes the stall closest to the door, so I never take that stall. Since almost every guy takes the first stall, I never take the second stall cuz, eww.
The fourth stall is the handicap stall. While roomier and equipped with handlebars should the need arise, I do not use this stall.
Therefore, the third stall is my unloading port of choice as it seems to get the least use.
[David Wojnarowicz](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Wojnarowicz) was born this day (9/14/1954). [Artist](https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2018/jul/13/david-wojnarowicz-exhibitions-whitney-museum) in a variety of media, and hero to at least one freaked-out fa%%ot in the closet back in the late 80s/early 90s. Whether he wanted to or not, he gave voice and form to the absolute RAGE felt by a population that was dying so those that survived could create a better world for LGBT people. As I understand it, there's a huge downside to federated software in the requirement to be Always Online. Lots of people have slow internet connections, or no connection at all, preventing them from accessing their software. Everyone should be able to use the programs/apps they have without regard to whether they are online or can get online.

Does anyone have experience/thoughts about Mojeek?
I just recently learned about it and haven't really explored it, but curious.
Thanks!
Recently started using Alexandrite and am really enjoying the experience, but have questions. I'm thinking of Alexandrite as the chocolate shell over my lemmy.world ice cream cone. Alexandrite is *not* an instance, correct? I have not found a place on Alexandrite where my subscriptions (joined communities) are listed. Is this not yet available? I assume that if I join a community in one (either Alexandrite or Lemmy.world) it will sync with the other. True? I've joined communities in Alexandrite, but they don't show in the list of subscribed communities in lemmy.world. That just may take more time. Yes? Thanks!
Title. Newbie, recently joined, 7/1/23. Right now, I'm on three: Lemmy.world (my 'main' or 'home'), kbin, and Blahaj Lemmy. I'm looking at Reddthat and sh.itjust.works as well. Just curious. I know most of the content will overlap, but there are differences in philosophy/moderator style, etc. Do you like having ONE instance? I'm loving [Alexandrite](https://a.lemmy.world) as the Dove dark chocolate enrobing my lemmy.world ice cream bar!
From [https://kottke.org/](https://kottke.org/): [Elstob is a variable font for medievalists](https://github.com/psb1558/Elstob-font) that based on types used by the Oxford University Press in the 17th and 18th centuries. Try the [specimens page](https://psb1558.github.io/Elstob-font/) to play around with features like ligatures and the long s.
I have accounts on Lemmy.world and Blahaj Lemmy and kbin. I would like to delete my account from Lemmy.world as they are not defederating from Meta/Threads. Plus, Lemmy.world is huge and spreading things across the fediverse makes sense. When I go to Settings and try to delete my account in Lemmy.world, I'm asked to enter my password, I do, the response is a 'Saved' message, but the account is still there. I want to keep my instance on Blahaj Lemmy, just not my instance on Lemmy.world There must be an answer that I'm just not seeing. Thoughts?
Hello, I randomly downloaded Connect for Lemmy, but I've never used apps on my phone for social. When I try to view comments I get the error message "couldnt_get_comments" I'm not sure what could be causing the problem. It makes the app worthless, but I don't want to give up on it if I'm doing something wrong. Has anyone else had the error message and resolved it? Thanks
Is there an option/setting to turn on infinite scroll on lemmy.world?
