'Women are losing their lives': The US state where abortion rights could sway the vote
  • storksforlegs storksforlegs 7d ago 100%

No. Please stop lying about this stuff. Biden didnt sit idly by and "let them get away with it" as you say. He did as much as a president could do in this position at the federal level.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/02/us/politics/biden-abortion-idaho-lawsuit.html

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp-video/mmvo146984005558

But again, its the GOP (federal, state, Supreme Court) who are ending abortion access here.
    https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/politics/biden-effort-to-protect-abortion-access-hindered-by-strict-state-laws

Your logic to NOT prevent a GOP victory (when they are obviously the ones who made this happen, and will make it go further if elected) makes no sense here. Its coming off as a bad faith attempt to discourage voting.

If you actually care about abortion rights, then you should be telling people to vote against the party of forced birth in every election. The democrats need to be cajoled into doing more to help people, but they are in fact much better for reproductive rights.

Have you not heard Trump? He is literally keeps saying he wants violence and to end democracy. If anything Harris should be ramping it up, why would they not say hea a threat to democracy when he literally wants to be a dictator and arrest his opponents etc.

Also Trump and Vance have intensified the violence and extreme language against the democrats - claiming the same things that are supposedly endangering the GOP so its ridiculous to claim the democrats are at fault here.

edit: I missed that OP was being sarcastic since there many pundits actually saying this shit

  • storksforlegs storksforlegs 7d ago 100%

This is appalling, but seems in line with their recent coverage. Has the NYT always been promoting far right viewpoints like this or is this a recent change in their editorial direction? They've also been burying and straight up ignoring Donald Trump stories this close to the election.

They no longer deserve their reputation as a top news source in any case.

Not sure how he could command the military out of office, he seems delusional enough to think this is possible... either way the intent is scary enough.

I hope everyone on the sane side of things are preparing for this kind of crap

no, they are trying to reinstate it. Its easy to find this information.

    https://www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/senate-democrats-reintroduce-bill-to-revitalize-the-voting-rights-act/

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/08/22/kamala-harris-voting-rights-legislation-senate/

Also why blame the democrats for "not bringing back" things the GOP have taken away. Why not criticize Trump or discourage voting for the GOP who are explicitly been responsible for these things if you care so much?

Your argument wont mean much if one side eliminates elections and deports/arrests leftist dissenters (as they have promised). If you care about change its irresponsible to not vote against the dictator this time around. Harris wont outlaw protests, criticism and elections, for example. Trump and Vance will.

I definitely think some of this is the case here with these stories. But the main takeaway should be how important it is to keep Trump the hell out of office again.

Sorry, but why is the GOP donating huge amounts to Stein and helping keep her on the ballot if she isn't running as a spoiler? Im sure theyre just concerned about democracy as they are in other parts of the country.

This being said, I wish the green party really was a viable option at the moment, but not with Stein in charge. Shes been helped by the GOP and Russia for a long time:

i guess it depends on the subject matter, but in my college courses i remember writing many timed in class essays (for midterms, exams, etc).

However I studied mostly humanities, (english, history, philosophy etc) in university so that might be why, but with the rise of LLM I find it strange this has not become more common given the situation?

I realize the article is about PhD students so this isn't exactly on point, but still.

Im sorry its a pretty wild to blame democrats and democrat voters for this? Are you serious?

The article you just posted states that Biden attempted to overturn the ban, but the Supreme court refused.

Also earlier this year democrats have tried codifying Roe but the GOP shut down (https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcna161016).

In my experience most people on the left want to help people living in red states, not condemn them to live under oppression.

That being said, I cant imagine what youre having to put up with, and I hope things turn around and start improving for you and your community soon.

Also Im sorry you had to encounter these divisive tumblr dicks, but please don't think everyone on the left feels this way about what's happening. Though of course there are real assholes who feel this way, bad actors are trying to turn this crisis into divisive conspiracy shitstorm on social media instead boosting ways to help people. I would avoid social media right now for this reason, especially twitter and tumblr where negativity gets hyper boosted.
