Not to draw a false equivalence, but once you notice it here, you notice it everywhere

Engineering students graduating and going to work for Lockheed matin and other defense contractors which report to America and it’s client state Isntreal are truly no better, and I will die on this hill.

The “it’s systemic” discussion ends when you are an integral part of the system.

    Yay capitalism!

I’m starting to call people out when they bring up ai horseshit irl and not so kindly.

But tbh, it’s too late. You can keep telling me (as my friends have) that the average person isn’t a fan, but that means jack shit when the average person uncritically consumes whatever new treat machine is marketed to hell and back by Silicon Valley ghouls, including AI.

Wild to me how a hurricane will fucking tear miles and miles of a golf course to shreds and instead of being a wake up call into how much of a waste of land that is, the powers that be are shipping in people from all over to assist in the restoration efforts

I hate marketing so Godamn much. People say to not allow things to have power over you, but it’s like fucking water dude I swear. And it’s so disingenuous and exploitative

  • I bought a usb interface so I could hook up a guitar and synth and record directly into my pc because I have hundreds of little snippets I’d like to try to do something with, and holy shit recording is *hard* Not sure if this is just the diy nature of it all but yeah it’s actually pretty disconcerting because I have some friends who do it no problem 🫠 maybe it’s just another thing that will take practice to get good Anyone have tips? I was thinking of maybe starting with a cover of something

She seems to have come into a shit ton of fame and fortune at an unprecedented pace. People calling her a millionaire and out of touch is just about as silly as calling someone who wins the lottery out of touch. Because that’s essentially what happened. Very reductive to say but feel like people understand what I mean

  • It honestly seems like people have forgotten what all tech entails with the rise of generative AI. Like holy shit man, people (at my company at least) now think you can write a program to control what is essentially your entire database system, security and business analytics with chatgpt. Maybe I’m just not meant for this and this is the norm. But it’s taken me like 2 months to get a handle on three different types of API and program documentation. And I’ve also been doing like sys admin work too. But three jobs in, and I’m starting to realize this is exactly what companies want. Because why pay multiple people for work in a department when they can just offload everything to one person and pay them nothing and know that the economy is so fucked that you’re basically trapped Like I integrated one system to another for my senior project in undergrad and I had a little help on that from another business. But now I’m doing it all alone and being expected to work at super speed at the same time

No “Zero-Shot” Without Exponential Data: Pretraining Concept Frequency Determines Multimodal Model Performance I’m not going to pretend that I can understand the minutiae as someone who basically just has an undergrad degree in IT, but it seems to be implying that exponential data is required for further advancements in generative AI. A cool paper and all, but I can’t stop thinking about how this shit won’t matter at all to C suites and MBAs who just want to AUTOMATE AUTOMATE AUTOMATE everything under the sun. Reminds me of how the experts in whatever specialized field research a problem and business people just throw away the results and make up their own (i.e. marketing). The conversation should have always been “Yeah your job will eventually become automated, but it’s not for the reason you think.” ![marx-hi](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.hexbear.net%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2Ff8bd5bf9-d3cf-473d-897d-e6c55739d91e.png "emoji marx-hi") Will be very interesting to see how the next few years play out

Or *they do* but I feel like the gravity of the statement alone never really registers Was recently reading a book written a long ass time ago by some Brit where he talked about how a lot of the value in currency (coins and paper of the time) came from the fact that they were all *tangible* And now wealth/money is completely digital. Of course the fed still prints shit, but with the amount of people who use Apple Pay/venmo to exchange “money” from person to person? Actually, does anyone know what I’m trying to say rn? Is money just a Trojan horse?

And tradition. Made a fucking comment about how his grandpa used to say *extremely vulgar and classist statement.” You could tell he disagreed with him but the Catholic and puritanical part almost trumped it. So insane to me how people just don’t deconstruct what they’ve been taught Of course his ancestors have been super comfortable. Holy fuck I am such a communist it hurts

I have a urine drug test on Tuesday morning and last smoked on Sunday I’m not a chronic smoker or anything, but I do it recreationally (because I haven’t had to take a drug test in probably 6-7 years at this point) Is there any hope for me to pass? Everywhere online says I’m fucked

And C-Suites are freaking the fuck out (my company) because we’re completing all of the work in <40 hours per week, which causes them to lose money lmao It is so fucking wild to me how no one sees the glaring problem here All of this AI shit should’ve stayed as nothing more and nothing less than a tool to make the very monotonous work done by everyone just a tad easier. It feels like we’re in such a massive fucking bubble right now on the scale of how people have talked about the sub prime mortgage crisis. My boomer ass parents just keep telling me to wait for things to get better, but how can you wait for things to get better when things are just statistically worse for everyone

Especially with TikTok+ this year’s taxes 😵‍💫 the average person isn’t going to realize that the 2017 tax bill is biting people this year (me included), and it’s much easier to blame genocide Joe. Kinda pissed lololol I make a squarely average amount of money and owe 2K. Love it here

I think I’m falling for my internet pen pal (who really seems much more than that). I don’t know what the fuck happened, but some redditor messaged me about a very niche post I made on a niche subreddit and we’ve been talking for almost 6 months. I’ve never seen them, they’ve never seen me, etc. But like I said we’ve been messaging (first on Reddit then I got their number) pretty consistently now. It’s truly bizarre but I think I found someone who understands me idk weird af

Anyone else have problems with instant gratification

It’s kinda hard for me to go without it 🥴 I can’t help but think it’s a product of the times tbh. I get extremely anxious when I send texts out to multiple people and get no replies, especially when I see some of my friends with hundreds of unread texts (is it something I said?) It would kinda make sense too, considering how algorithms are designed to give you what you want. Idk is that a stretch? But yeah I’m interested in the science behind why my happy brain chemicals go off the rails when I get the slightest bit of validation, this also makes me even more skeptical about the idea of SSRIs

Kinda sad to think about, the internet as we know it is sorta on life support. We’re like steps away from blending our personal life with our work life. Shit’s terrifying I’m probably just talking consequences of enshitification. But it’s so wild that it’ll get worse ![agony-shivering](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/27c47446-6789-419f-8bd5-8eae22931148.png "emoji agony-shivering")

Idk man. In every org I’ve been apart of, there comes a time where you can slowly start to see people suddenly switch their use of language and become fully engulfed by whatever “system” they belong to. Corporate America, church, clubs, it’s kinda fucking terrifying to see in real time. And the people who notice this happening/tell people to check themselves never seem to have enough power/authority to get it to stop. And then it fucking spirals out of control and you’re dealing with borderline cults. What’s the fucking antidote

When I was younger, that was something that I didn’t consider whatsoever. Epitome of ![soypoint-1](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/f60b272a-951c-4280-a407-a40408fc5aaf.png "emoji soypoint-1") I kinda wish I could turn it off and on but that hasn’t seemed possible. Feels like I’m always reading into what used to just be slop and can’t really pinpoint when things changed 😅 Does this make sense?
