I live in the rust belt with a lot of decayed mansions than now families live in for pretty cheap and it's always somebodies birthday or some uncle sitting on the porch smoking or whatever. One thousand times the real human life in one house here than in all of those rich mansions.
Reading about the former latifundista mansions in Cuba that are now family housing and daycares, it makes me imagine how it could be if we could properly maintain these beautiful buildings and use them efficiently.

Could someone try to parse why this is funny? I can't find the funny bone this is scratching right now.
After several start-stops, I decided to give it another go during Rosh Hashanah with the idea that I would not bring it with me into the new year. The past few times I have quit, I have managed to stay off for 5-6 months. It feels a bit like the anti-depressant trap of "I feel better, so I'll stop." Or in this case, "oh, I'm not addicted anymore so it must be okay for me to have a cigarette every now and again at parties or hanging out with so-and-so," which quickly spirals. This Summer, I learned that I was using nicotine to self-medicate ADHD and anxiety which is a catastrophic plan since nicotine dependency and the attendant mini-withdrawals of smoking addiction massively exacerbate both conditions. I am now in the initial stages of treatment for both so I am guardedly optimistic that this quit will go better. And yes, I have read 'the easy way to quit smoking'! :p Great book up to a point.
On the other hand, it's nice having a non-explicitly political thread where I can share   content.
j.j I teach lower elementary so it hasn't felt super necessary but I'm worried they might complain. I think I'll give out some fun reinforcement activities for class points and not for grade credit. Esp. since a lot of my kids don't have much support at home so it doesn't seem fair. Plus they're in class for 7 hours a day! Let them have a break and a chance to be kids.
I was at a casual lover's show last night and their partner was flirting and being really sweet to me all night. Before I left, they ran up to me and kissed me before running back off into the night which was a cute surprise. We ran into each other around town this morning and talked and we might try to go on a group date soon :p Being in group spaces in the past was maybe one of the lowest-jealousy poly experiences I've had so far...but maybe it was because us two were crushing a bit!
For instance are there any neat filtration systems I can install in wall cavities? I'm also trying to be mindful of soundproofing but am willing to make tradeoffs.
They would have to just hang out and not really be able to leave for 5-6 hours while our other friend is working, but could do their own thing. Basically they are just there for safety reasons if anything happens to our friend doing the work who we have a fair price established. First friend has a lot of sedentary hobbies so boredom isn't a risk but I want to treat them fairly.
Today, I set up a fixture in the dining room and it took some 5 hours from start to finish. Not even really sure where all the time goes it just sloops away. Doing it with my friend who is a builder with some electrical experience. She's giving me a good rate but it's going to add up to do the whole house.
I have been eating so much fruit, tinned fish and Pita and it has been great for my health but I am starting to crave variety. What can I eat?
My old one got squished in moving. It was a Kobo Klara I got as a gift. Before, I had a refurbished kindle paperwhite 7th gen that I liked the UI of much more but didn't like having an Amazon product. Wondering what is out there now. My main desiderata is that it has warm backlighting and is small. Would also like better .pdf reading than the Kobo that was basically non-doable.
