The latest narrative about DPRK soldiers fighting on the front lines in Ukraine is bullshit

Yeah I seriously had my doubts when I saw the purported video evidence. I assumed western propaganda is so racist that they see Russian soldiers who are Asian and try to lie that they're Korean.

Most of Silent Hill 3 revolves around this stuff too. I believe that was the idea though, that 2 focuses on a lot of masculine anxieties and sexual neurosis, so 3 focuses on anxieties women might have.

I can only imagine the g*mer rage if Konami contracts Bloober to remake SH3. Because it actually is woke in the way they say it is. It has a strong female protagonist who gets really pissed off by creepy male attention and resists being sexualized.

Heather is just so good. She's such a rarity in horror games. She's a normal person who just wants to go home and be left alone, doesn't want to deal with weird supernatural stuff, and she has a warranted temper about everything happening.

I don't know how y'all can brave the front lines of posting like that. I can't stomach anything these reactionaries say for a second. They all have the infuriating quality of being confidently incorrect. They describe delusions in their head, made up on the spot, but treat it like well known common knowledge.

They treat it with absolute fact that the Middle East has been a conflict ridden warzone for thousands of years. They can't understand the current colonization of Palestinians started less than 100 years ago. They can't understand that Jews and Muslims lived in the region for something like 1200 years together during various reigns and weren't some eternal enemies fighting holy wars 24/7. They can't fathom that the British and American Empires instigated this whole conflict, and that it's driven not by ancient grudges, but rather current oppression happening right now to real living people.

I hate all these smug smarmy liberals who act all holy because they're following completely fictional rules of civility that they made up. Their rules for civility mean you have to feed into their stupid western liberal vibes analysis or else you're attacking or harassing or whatever the fuck. You can't call them a fascist sympathizing imperialist fuck even if that is precisely what they are.

I just hate them, I feel bad looking at anything they say, so I stay away for my health. To all my posting comrades, you're stronger than I'll ever be. kim-salute

What are they even saying? There is currently a war and Israel is the one instigating it. They're the ones bombing Gaza and moving troops into Lebanon through Syria. What, is Israel going to invade even more countries if the US pulls out support?

Maybe Israel will do something crazy like assassinate Palestinians leaders while they're in Iran? Oh.

  • Short version, I wanna change my names (first and middle two) sometime this year to something more audibly enby. I have a bunch of stuff I think sounds neat, but is that all it needs? Like it feels fake at some level, or like an affectation. I don't know what names resonate with me or if they're even supposed to. I feel like this is a common experience so maybe I could get some advice? I do want names that stand out, but also ones that don't make me sound full of myself, but...also need something that resonates with me and I'm so confused and lost ![i-spil-my-jice](https://lemm.ee/api/v3/image_proxy?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhexbear.net%2Fpictrs%2Fimage%2F1399b8f4-765d-4ecf-ab4a-226392b903bd.png "emoji i-spil-my-jice")

Hi everyone! Basically I want to change my legal name to something way more non-binary, including my middle names. I already know there's a state application process and I'll have to get my passport changed and all that. Are there any more hurdles I'm not considering? I don't even know what I want to change my names to yet, but I know at least one of my middle names won't be "normal" so I'm a little worried about how that might work legally? Maybe I'm worried about nothing. I live in Texas if that makes anything different. If anyone has advice or had any experiences they hadn't considered at first, please let me know. I'm kinda excited about this. Oh, and I still haven't decided on any names, so feel free to suggest any lol. I'm looking for mainly like neutral to femme stuff and also naturey sciencey words that aren't typical names. I kinda have a punk vibe too. A bunch of restaurants around me shut down recently and everyone blames the greedy servers for demanding more tips and wages. They're blaming shoplifting too, claiming petty crime simply isn't punished enough. Someone I know claims shoplifting is legal in California. Americans can't conceive of real estate capitalists squeezing other, smaller capitalists. It's always gotta be taxes or baristas asking for higher wages. Every restaurant that shuts down around here is 100% the fault of landlords. No restaurant has ever folded because the servers got paid $10 per hour instead of $8 per hour

I got told today I shouldn't raise kids because I'd purposefully raise them in a vegan household, without animal products of any sort. I was told this would be dangerous and unfair to the kids. It was a weirdly direct thing for this person to say to me (one of my coworkers). It's stuck in my head. I was told I should let my potential children choose what sort of morals they have, even though this person is raising their kids Catholic. Their advice to me was to allow my potential kids to choose every night between a meat-based meal and a vegan meal (???). And several other coworkers agreed. Where do they come up with this? No carnist raises their kids like this. So is anyone raising vegan kids or does anyone know about what it's like? Or was anyone here raised in a vegan household?

I never got into it and I feel like I'm missing a huge social part of my life. I've tried alcohol and it just tastes bad. Maybe if I had enough to get inebriated I'd feel different, but so far nothing about the experience of drinking has been good. Also I grew up around Baptists who don't have drinking in the culture, so maybe that's part of it? My parents never had alcohol in the house and there was never beer/wine at family gatherings. I never even saw a full glass of beer in person until I was like 23. Bars are too loud and there's too much expectation to drink, parties have the same problem, drinking at home alone sounds sad. I go to concerts and I'm the only person without a huge glass of beer. People hand me drinks and I'm like "nah" and they get mega confused. What do I do Is this the opposite of a problem?

Person the other week noticed I was wearing vegan Doc Martens (the tags are white for vegan shoes). I know they're polyurethane, which isn't great, but I'd prefer that over animal skin on my feet. This person was apparently also a vegan, but says they prefer wearing leather (what) because in their words "Animal leather is biodegradable, lasts longer, and is a by-product of the already existing meat industry." making the point that animal leather has less of an environmental impact. I didn't know how to respond at all. I know veganism isn't simply consumption habits but it did make me feel weird. I still don't think anyone should wear leather. Does anyone have advice? I'm just feeling weird and self-conscious now

Does anyone have experience figuring out if they're aro/ace? This is all over been thinking about lately. I've realized I've never imagined myself in a relationship, I only tried dating because it felt like I was supposed to. I don't relate to the idea of having a crush or being in love. I've lived alone for the past 7 years and only went on dates when prodded. I used to feel bad about it, like I was missing something, but also I realized I've never attempting dating completely unprompted. I'm otherwise ok with myself. I don't feel like something's missing, but I do feel very awkward around other people since my life is a lot more solitary. Never having a romantic partner would be alright with me, but I'm struggling with my self-image and how I'm gonna relate to people for the rest of my life. Since I'm at an age where most of my peers have lives revolving around spouses and kids. Am I aro/ace then or do I gotta do more examination of myself?

Every chud in my life is obsessed with someone breaking into their house and the situation being resolved with the discharge of a firearm. And these are people living in low crime areas out in the suburbs, with no pedestrians. It's frustrating to talk with these people since their whole worldview is a racist panic over some imagined brown interloper invading their white fortresses. One of my coworkers tells me he always pulls out his Glock to check the corners when he comes home in the evening. Another has a CCTV system and an AR15 by his bed. I personally don't own a gun anymore because I don't trust myself with one, and chuds will ask me what I'll do if some mentally unwell person high on amphetamines decided to enter my apartment. I guess I'd leave or call an ambulance? It seems so unlikely of a scenario that even if I had a firearm I probably wouldn't use it right, or even register this person as a threat quickly enough to do a John Wick style takedown. How many home invasions are actually stopped this way? Do chuds all think they're Robocop?

It looks a little different than it did a few years ago? There's been radio silence since Paradox started over with the new devs. This game has had a really troubled production, I think Paradox has been trying to get it off the ground since 2015. Now it's being done by The Chinese Room, most known for Dear Esther and Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. Bloodlines is one of my favorite games of all time, so I'm trying to stay optimistic that the devs also hold it in high regard and will try to make a worthwhile sequel. The gameplay from this new trailer looks a little clunky and weird, but maybe that's ok. VTMB never had great combat in the first place. The dialogue, writing, and vibes are where it's at. Looks like there will be gliding around and parkour stuff? Might be cool. Anyone looking forward to this game? There's even a release window, Fall of 2024, but this game was supposed to originally release in March of 2020, so don't hold your breath.

I kinda regret my username, but I've been here 3 years so it's stuck. Hi everyone. I lurked around on the old subreddit, but never posted anything. I was always too shy since everyone seemed so high energy and more interesting than me. But then I came here and learned y'all are super nice and helpful. Most pleasant internet community I've ever been a part of, including all the way back to the IRC days. About me: I'm nonbinary and I've been calling myself a communist since the Iraq War. I try to stay well read but I get lazy about it sometimes. I come from a deeply racist, reactionary small town in America and it's liberating to talk about how I escaped all of that. Sometimes I tell y'all stories about my family and how bad they can get, like one cousin is in the Klan, another is an Ayn Rand worshiping small business guy who keeps getting caught doing wage theft. I'm an amateur musician/producer and tinker with electronics. I play guitar, flute, I fiddle with modular synths, sampling, etc. I read a lot, I really like horror and magical realism. I like Jorge Luis Borges a lot even though he was a bit of a liberal. I play a lot of video games, I have a soft spot for Touhou, Yakuza, Silent Hill, and early 90s point and click games (Sam and Max especially). I really like movies too, especially really surreal artsy stuff from directors like David Lynch, Jodorosky, Tartovksy, Suzan Pitt. Thanks everyone for tolerating me when I get mopey or aggressive sometimes. I sometimes feel like I'm annoying here but everyone's super cool. Hope I can spend more time with everyone and continue to learn stuff. ![rat-salute](https://www.hexbear.net/pictrs/image/94bcb899-8542-45fb-9dd7-b4a49a944346.png "rat-salute")

I just got around to checking out Psychonauts 2. The first one was always a favorite of mine, really clever platforming and cute story. The second game starts out with a disclaimer that it does portray real mental illnesses, but it's supposed to be playful and humorous. I thought that was kinda neat. I'm amazed at how much the sequel feels like the previous game too. It came out 16 years later and it still feels fresh and good. Seamless transition, picks up almost immediately after the previous game. Platforming feels smooth and tight. Gameplay is actually the same, which is good to me. I went into this game thinking it'd just be some nostalgia pandering repeat of the first game, or some kind of hollow cash grab, but nope. Genuine extension of the first game. Worst you could say about it is that it's too similar to the first one, but...that's what I wanted. Good times. Feels like Double Fine at their best, like a culmination of all the stuff they've done in previous games. Jack Black is even in it. No spoilers please

I recently got diagnosed with Avoidant Personality Disorder (AVPD)

I suppose it makes sense. I have no close friends and I completely avoid social situations unless I have to be in them. It would explain why I always feel like the center of (negative) attention in any given room, or why I always feel like I'm annoying people or that I sound smug. The doctor told me people with AVPD often have trouble understanding who they are as a person, and can't latch onto specific identities, but I haven't thought about that much. The pamphlet and stuff I'm reading online also seems to suggest AVPD has such overlap with social/general anxiety they're almost the same thing. Anyone else have experience with this?

It's literally like this: Materialists/Physicalists: "The thoughts in your head come from your conditions and are ultimately the result of your organs and nervous system. Your consciousness is linked to your brain activity and other parts of your body interacting with the physical real world." Dualists: "[Ok but what if there were an imaginary zombie](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophical_zombie) that has the same organs and molecular structure as a living person but somehow isn't alive on some metaphysical level. If this zombie is conceivable, that means it must be metaphysically true somehow." Materialists: "That's circular and imaginary, isn't it?" Other dualists: "[Ok but what if I were in a swamp](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Davidson_(philosopher)#Swampman) and lightning strikes a tree and magically creates a copy of me but it's not actually me because it doesn't have my soul." Am I reading this stuff wrong or are these actually the best arguments for mind-body dualism

I like making weird noise music involving samples. Some of my favorites have been sample CDs from the 90s, and using archive.org to look through PSAs and old news broadcasts. But it's really difficult finding anything good in the piles of just...local community radio and the mountains of college lectures. I like finding stuff that's really eerie or odd, like that one [recording of that time the US tried scaring the Viet Cong with scary ghost noises](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Wandering_Soul_(Vietnam_War)) (which didn't work lmao :uncle-ho-2: ) Does anyone else have a more streamlined approach or do any of y'all have any favorite media that's esoteric/creepy?
